Jaela Caston

BMS Graduate student
I started off my scientific journey by studying Psychological Brain Sciences at UCSB. After graduating with my B.S., I worked in Dr. Hilde Schjerven’s lab studying immune cell infiltrates in the lungs of our transgenic mouse models in addition to understanding drug resistance in BALL. While in the Schjerven lab, I became a part of PROPEL’s inaugural class in its post-baccalaureate program. I then transitioned to Mark Ansel’s lab to study neuro-immune interactions in atopic dermatitis. I am currently a graduate student in the BMS program looking to investigate the crosstalk between neural and immune cells in the developing brain. My other hats at UCSF include being the Outreach chair for ImmunoDiverse and BE-STEM. I am a proud San Francisco native, and would love to help any newcomers find their way around the city. In my free time, I love spending time with my loved ones, painting, dancing, and swimming in the ocean!
